Hardware store billing software for shops that sell by the metre, kilo and piece

A hardware shop sells wire by the metre, nails by the kilo, paint by the litre and switches by the piece — often on the same bill, and often to a contractor who will settle up at the end of the month. The catalogue is huge, the items are rarely barcoded, and the money tied up in stock is serious.

Store Mitr lets a hardware shop bill in whatever unit each item is sold in, keep contractor credit under control, and know what its stock is worth.

Hardware and electrical store using Store Mitr for billing and inventory

Any unit, on the same bill

Set each product’s unit yourself — pcs, kg, litre, metre, box or anything else your trade uses. Fixed products are sold by the piece or pack at one price; variable products carry a price per unit and accept fractional quantities, so 2.5 kg of nails or 3.5 metres of wire bill correctly. You can mix all of them on one invoice.

Contractors on credit, with a ceiling

Many of your best customers are contractors and plumbers who buy every week and pay monthly. Record those sales on Khata against the customer’s phone number and give each one a credit limit. Store Mitr checks the limit whenever you bill on Khata and shows how much credit is left, so a single large order cannot quietly push a customer far beyond what you are comfortable with.

Each customer’s profile shows their purchase history and outstanding amount. When they pay, you record the collection with a note, and it flows into your day closing.

A catalogue you can actually search

Most hardware items have no barcode, so finding them quickly matters. Search by name at the counter and add the item to the bill, or scan the barcode where one exists. A product’s optional photo — a square image you crop when adding it — helps a new employee tell two similar fittings apart.

Buying stock, and knowing what it is worth

Create purchase orders for your distributors, receive goods against them so stock rises accurately, and record purchase returns for anything sent back. The Inventory value report shows the total value of what is on your shelves — useful when you are deciding how much to reorder before a busy building season.

Set a low-stock level on fast-moving lines like cement accessories, wires and fasteners so they are flagged before you run out mid-order.

Tax and paperwork

Store your GSTIN on the Store profile, set a tax percentage on each product, and invoices carry your store name and logo with a numbered invoice series. When your accountant needs the month’s sales, export them as a CSV from Reports.

What Store Mitr does not do (yet)

So you can decide with the full picture:

  • Store Mitr does not convert between units — a product is sold in the one unit you set for it.
  • Quotations, delivery challans and e-way bills are not part of the product today.
  • GST returns are not filed from Store Mitr; you get a sales CSV for your accountant.

Common questions

Can I sell hardware items by the metre or kilo?

Yes. Mark the product as variable, type the unit you sell it in, set the price per unit, and bill fractional quantities.

How do I give credit to a contractor?

Bill the sale on Khata with the contractor’s phone number. You can set a credit limit on their customer profile and record each repayment against their outstanding balance.

Does Store Mitr work if most of my items have no barcode?

Yes. Products without a barcode are added and found by name, and scanning is optional for the items that do have one.
